Fun with the Future of Humanity

I wish I paid less attention to the presidential race. I'm scared the Hillary might win the nomination on her "just because I'm a woman and running as a democrat doesn't mean I can't pander as much to the worst in America like the Republicans do" platform. And a contest between her and John "More of the Same but Probably Worse" McCain would make choosing the lesser of two evils a hard pill to swallow.

It doesn't help that Obama can't control his verbal diarrhea or stand up for his preacher, especially when McCain's spiritual advisers are just to the right of Mussolini and America could care less because most of the country is right there with him. That or they're too busy trying to convince their even dumber cousins that Obama is the anti-christ. That the guy can't get a break and still manages to be so popular among voters (popular enough that registered republicans are crossing over so they can vote for Hillary in the primaries because they fear Obama that much) is a sign that there may be hope for this country.

If you had told me 20 years ago that 20 years from now, we'd have a woman and a black man vying for the presidency, I'd have told you that you need to cut down on the paraquat. It's a great thing, and despite my criticism of both candidates, their policies and track records are, well, if not exemplary then at least relatively good... especially if you compare them to Bush Jr. Then again, a maggot on a dead dog's butt has a better record of clean living than that guy, so it's not a good comparison. I'd argue that next to McCain, they've both proven that they care more for the future of the human race (see link in first paragraph) and that either would make a better president than the alternative.

Those of us who are on the far left expect a lot from Clinton and Obama. They have to put up with a hundred times the hatred and scrutiny that any candidates have ever had to endure, and--infighting and the occasional bout of Bushism aside--they're doing a better job than the mainstream would ever give them credit for, though I think Hillary has  lost her way and need to check herself before she wreck herself.

Maybe the people who refused to see the signs that G.W. would be as bad as he has been will get a conscience and try to atone for their sins of the last two "elections," overcome their racism and/or sexism, and vote for someone who could actually do some good for this world.

...and maybe I'll go vegan next week.
